The Ladders

(Maccie, Surah # 70, Verses 44 )

70:1 A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall

70:2 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer.

70:3 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways

JUDGMENT DAY IS 50,000 YEARS LONG

70:4 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael] ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years.

70:5 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW ), with a good patience.

70:6 They think that it is far away.

70:7 But We see it (quite) near.

70:8 On that Day the sky will be like molten copper

70:9 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool,

70:10 And no friend will ask of a friend,

ASKING FOR RANSOM AT THE PRICE OF THEIR CHILDREN, WIFE, KINSHIP

70:11 They will be shown to each other. The Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever) will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day at the price of his children.

70:12 And his wife and his brother

70:13 And his nearest kindred who shelter him

70:14 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him.

70:15 But no! There will certainly be a Fire of Hell!

70:16 Taking away (burning completely) the scalp (head skin)!

70:17 It will summon whoever turned their backs ˹on Allah˺ and turned away ˹from the truth˺,

70:18 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah).

MANKIND IS IMPATIENT

70:19 Verily, mankind was created very impatient;

70:20 When evil touches him, they complain (impatient)

70:21 And when good touches him, withholding [of it],

PEOPLE WHO ARE SAFE FROM HELLFIRE ARE:

70:22 Except those who pray,

70:23 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers);

70:24 They are those who assign a certain share of their property

70:25 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (from asking);

70:26 and who ˹firmly˺ believe in the Day of Judgment;

70:27 And those who fear the torment of their Lord,

70:28 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe 

70:29 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts)

70:30 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed

70:31 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors -

70:32 And those who keep their trusts and promises

70:33 and who are honest in their testimony;

70:34 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well ,

70:35 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honored.

DISBELIEVERS WILL BE IN THE HELL FIRE

70:36 So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muhammad],

70:37 [To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups?

70:38 Does every one of them expect to be admitted into a Garden of Bliss?

70:39 No, that is not like that! Verily, We have created them out of that which they know!

70:40 So I swear by the Lord of all [the three hundred and sixty] points of sunrise and sunset in the east and the west that surely We are Able

70:41 of replacing them with ˹others˺ better than them, and We cannot be prevented ˹from doing so˺.

70:42 So let them indulge ˹in falsehood˺ and amuse ˹themselves˺ until they face their Day, which they have been threatened with—

70:43 The Day they will come forth from the graves swiftly, as if racing to an idol ˹for a blessing˺,

70:44 with eyes downcast, utterly covered with disgrace. That is the Day they have ˹always˺ been warned of.
