SURAH ASH-SHURA
Consultation
(Maccie, Surah # 42, Verses 53 )
42:1 Ha, Meem.
42:2 Ayn, Seen, Qaf.
ALLAH’S REVELATION
42:3 And so you ˹O Prophet˺ are sent revelation, just like those before you, by Allah—the Almighty, All-Wise.
42:4 To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
ANGELS ASK FORGIVENESS FOR THOSE ON EARTH
42:5 The heavens almost break from above them, and the angels exalt [Allah] with praise of their Lord and ask forgiveness for those on earth. Unquestionably, it is Allah who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
42:6 As for those who take other protectors besides Him, Allah is Watchful over them. And you ˹O Prophet˺ are not a keeper over them.
WARNING THROUGH QURAN
42:7 And so We have revealed to you a Quran in Arabic, so you may warn the Mother of Cities and everyone around it, and warn of the Day of Gathering—about which there is no doubt—˹when˺ a group will be in Paradise and another in the Blaze.
42:8 And if Allah willed, He could have made them [of] one religion, but He admits whom He wills into His mercy. And the wrongdoers have not any protector or helper.
42:9 How can they take protectors besides Him? Allah alone is the Protector. He ˹alone˺ gives life to the dead. And He ˹alone˺ is Most Capable of everything.
42:10 Whatever differences you may have about the Quran, the final decision rests with Allah. Such is Allah, my Lord in Whom I put my trust, and to Him I turn in all of my affairs and in repentance.
42:11 ˹He is˺ the Originator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you spouses from among yourselves, and ˹made˺ mates for cattle ˹as well˺—multiplying you ˹both˺. There is nothing like Him, for He ˹alone˺ is the All-Hearing, All-Seeing.
42:12 To Him belong the keys ˹of the treasuries˺ of the heavens and the earth. He gives abundant or limited provisions to whoever He wills. Indeed, He has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of all things.
ISLAM IS THE ONLY RELIGION SINCE ADAM
42:13 He (Allah) has ordained for you the same religion (Islam) which He ordained for Nuh, and that which We have inspired in you (O Muhammad), and that which We ordained for Ibrahim, Musa and 'Isa saying you should establish religion, and make no divisions in it. Intolerable for the Mushrikun , is that to which you (O Muhammad ) call them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides unto Himself who turns to Him in repentance and in obedience.
42:14 Only after receiving the knowledge did people divide themselves into different groups because of rebellion among themselves. Had it not been for your Lord's giving them respite for an appointed time, He would certainly have settled their differences once and for all. And verily, those who were made to inherit the Scripture after them (i.e. Jews and Christians) are in grave doubt concerning it (i.e. Allah's true religion Islam or the Quran).
ALLAH’S COMMAND TO PROPHET MUHAMMAD(PBUH)
42:15 Thus, (Muhammad), preach (My revelation) to the people and be steadfast (in your faith) as you have been commanded. Do not follow their desires but say, "I believe in the Book which God has sent down and I have been commanded to exercise justice among you. God is our Lord and your Lord. Each of us will be responsible for his own deeds. Let there be no disputes among us. God will bring us all together and to Him we shall all return".
42:16 And those who argue concerning Allah after He has been responded to - their argument is invalid with their Lord, and upon them is [His] wrath, and for them is a severe punishment.
42:17 It is Allah Who has revealed the Book with the truth and the balance ˹of justice˺. You never know, perhaps the Hour is near.
42:18 Those who disbelieve in it ˹ask to˺ hasten it ˹mockingly˺. But the believers are fearful of it, knowing that it is the truth. Surely those who dispute about the Hour have gone far astray.
42:19 Allah is Ever Kind to His servants. He provides ˹abundantly˺ to whoever He wills. And He is the All-Powerful, Almighty.
42:20 Whosoever desires the reward of the Hereafter, We give him increase in his reward, and whosoever desires the reward of this world, We give him some of it, and he has no portion in the Hereafter.
42:21 Do they have idols who have established a religion without the permission of God? Had not it been for your Lord's giving them respite for an appointed time, He would certainly have settled their differences once and for all. The unjust will certainly suffer a painful torment.
42:22 You will see the wrongdoers fearful of what they have earned, and it will [certainly] befall them. And those who have believed and done righteous deeds will be in lush regions of the gardens [in Paradise] having whatever they will in the presence of their Lord. That is what is the great bounty.
42:23 This is the glad news which God gives to His servants, the righteously striving believers. (Muhammad), say, "I do not ask you for any payment for my preaching to you except (your) love of(my near) relatives."Whoever earns a good deed, We will increase it in goodness for them. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Appreciative.
42:24 Or do they say, "He has invented about Allah a lie"? But if Allah willed, He could seal over your heart. And Allah eliminates falsehood and establishes the truth by His words. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the heart.
42:25 He is the One Who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons ˹their˺ sins. And He knows whatever you do.
42:26 He responds to those who believe and do good, and increases their reward out of His grace. As for the disbelievers, they will suffer a severe punishment.
42:27 Had Allah given abundant provisions to ˹all˺ His servants, they would have certainly transgressed throughout the land. But He sends down whatever He wills in perfect measure. He is truly All-Aware, All-Seeing of His servants.
42:28 He is the One Who sends down rain after people have given up hope, spreading out His mercy. He is the Protector, the Praiseworthy.
42:29 And among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and all living beings He dispersed throughout both. And He is Most Capable of bringing all together whenever He wills.
HARDSHIPS IN LIVES
42:30 Whatever hardship befalls you is the result of your own deeds. Allah pardons many of your sins.
42:31 And you cannot escape from Allah (i.e. His Punishment) in the earth, and besides Allah you have neither any Wali (guardian or a protector) nor any helper.
ALLAH’S SIGNS- SHIP SAILING
42:32 And among His Signs are the ships, in the sea, like mountains.
42:33 Had He wanted, He could have stopped the wind and let the ships remain motionless on the surface of the sea, in this there is evidence (of the Truth) for all those who are patient and grateful,
42:34 Or He may destroy them (by drowning) because of that which their (people) have earned. And He pardons many sins.
42:35 He knows all those who dispute His revelations. They will find no way to escape from (His torment).
42:36 So whatever you have been given is but a passing enjoyment for this worldly life, but that which is with Allah (Paradise) is better and more lasting for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord.
42:37 And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry, they forgive,
42:38 who respond to their Lord, establish prayer, conduct their affairs by mutual consultation, and donate from what We have provided for them;
42:39 and those who, when suffering a great injustice, seek to defend themselves.
42:40 The reward of an evil deed is its equivalent. But whoever pardons and seeks reconciliation, then their reward is with Allah. He certainly does not like the wrongdoers.
42:41 Those who successfully defend themselves after being wronged will not be blamed.
42:42 Blame is only on those who wrong people and transgress in the land unjustly. It is they who will suffer a painful punishment.
42:43 And verily, whosoever shows patience and forgives that would truly be from the things recommended by Allah.
42:44 And whoever Allah leaves to stray will have no guide after Him. You will see the wrongdoers, when they face the torment, pleading, “Is there any way back ˹to the world˺?
42:45 And you will see them exposed to the Fire, fully humbled out of disgrace, stealing glances ˹at it˺. And the believers will say, “The ˹true˺ losers are those who have lost themselves and their families on Judgment Day.” The wrongdoers will certainly be in everlasting torment.
42:46 They will have no protectors to help them against Allah. And whoever Allah leaves to stray, for them there is no way.
42:47 Answer the Call of your Lord (i.e. accept the Islam) before there comes from Allah a Day which cannot be averted. You will have no refuge on that Day nor for you will there be any denial.
42:48 But if they turn away, We have not sent you ˹O Prophet˺ as a keeper over them. Your duty is only to deliver ˹the message˺. And indeed, when We let someone taste a mercy from Us, they become prideful ˹because˺ of it. But when afflicted with evil because of what their hands have done, then one becomes totally ungrateful.
ALLAH GIVES YOU SONS, DAUGHTERS OR BOTH OR NONE
42:49 To Allah ˹alone˺ belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He creates whatever He wills. He blesses whoever He wills with daughters, and blesses whoever He wills with sons,
42:50 or grants both, sons and daughters, ˹to whoever He wills˺, and leaves whoever He wills infertile. He is indeed All-Knowing, Most Capable.
HUMAN CANNOT COMMUNICATE WITH ALLAH EXCEPT
42:51 It is not ˹possible˺ for a human being to have Allah communicate with them, except through inspiration, or from behind a veil, or by sending a messenger-angel to reveal whatever He wills by His permission. He is surely Most High, All-Wise.
42:52 And so We have sent to you ˹O Prophet˺ a revelation by Our command. You did not know of ˹this˺ Book and faith ˹before˺. But We have made it a light, by which We guide whoever We will of Our servants. And indeed, [O Muhammad], you guide to a straight path -
42:53 The Path of Allah, to Whom belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. Verily, all the matters at the end go to Allah (for decision).
