SURAH ASH-SHUARA
The Poets
(Maccie, Surah # 26, Verses 227 )
26:1 Ta, Seen, Meem.
26:2 These are the verses of the clear Book.
26:3 Perhaps, [O Muhammad PBUH], you would kill yourself with grief that they will not be believers.
26:4 Had We wanted, We would have sent them a miracle from the sky to make their heads hang down in submission.
26:5 Whenever a new message comes to them from the Most Compassionate, they turn away from it.
26:6 So they have indeed denied (Quran), They will soon learn the consequences of what they mocked.
26:7 Do they not see the earth, how many of every noble kind We have caused to grow in it?
26:8 Verily, in this, is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.
26:9 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
PROPHET MUSA
26:10 And (remember) when your Lord called Musa (saying): "Go to the people who are Zalimun.
26:11 The people of Fir'aun. Will they not fear Allah
26:12 He (Musa) said, "My Lord, indeed I fear that they will reject me
26:13 "And my breast straightens, and my tongue express not well. So send for Harun (Aaron) (to come along with me).
26:14 "And they have a charge of crime against me, and I fear they will kill me."
26:15 Allah said: "Nay! Go you both with Our Signs. Verily! We shall be with you, listening.
26:16 Go to Pharaoh and say, 'We are the messengers of the Lord of the Alamin!
26:17 "So allow the Children of Israel to go with us."
26:18 Fir'aun said to Musa: "Did we not bring you up among us as a child? And you did dwell many years of your life with us.
26:19 "And you did your deed, which you did (i.e. the crime of killing a man). You are certainly ungrateful."
26:20 Musa said: "I did it then, when I was an ignorant
26:21 So I ran away from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and prophethood and appointed me [as one] of the messengers.
26:22 And is this a favor of which you remind me - that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?"
26:23 Fir'aun said: "And what is the Lord of the 'Alamin?
26:24 Musa said: "Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, if you should be convinced."
26:25 Fir'aun said to those around: "Do you not hear (what he says)?"
26:26 Musa said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your ancient fathers!"
26:27 Fir'aun said: "Verily, your Messenger who has been sent to you is a madman!"
26:28 Musa said: "Lord of the east and the west, and all that is between them,if only you would think".
26:29 Fir'aun said: "If you choose an ilah (god) other than me, I will certainly put you among the prisoners."
26:30Musa said: "Even if I bring you something manifest (and convincing)?"
26:31 Fir'aun said: "Bring it, if you are telling the truth."
26:32 So [Musa] threw his stick, and behold, it was a serpent, manifest.
26:33 And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white for the observers.
26:34 The Pharaoh said to the people around him, "He is certainly a skillful magician.
26:35 He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?"
26:36 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers
26:37 Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician."
26:38 So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day.
26:39 And the people were asked, “Will you join the gathering,
26:40 That we might follow the magicians if they become victorious?
26:41 When the magicians came, they asked the Pharaoh, "Will there be any reward for us if we win?"
26:42 He replied, "You will then be my closest associates".
26:43 Musa said to them: "Throw what you are going to throw!"
26:44 So they threw their ropes and their sticks, and said: "By the might of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), it is we who will certainly win!"
26:45 Then Musa threw his stick, and behold, it swallowed up all the falsehoods which they showed!
26:46 So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah].
26:47 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin
26:48 "The Lord of Musa and Harun."
26:49 [Pharaoh] said, "You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all."
26:50 They said: "No harm! Surely, to our Lord (Allah) we are to return;
26:51 Verily! We really hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we are the first of the believers
26:52 Also We revealed unto Moses, 'Go with My servants by night; surely you will be followed.'
26:53 Then Fir'aun (Pharaoh) sent callers to (all) the cities.
26:54 (Saying): "Verily! These indeed are but a small band.
26:55 "And verily, they have done what has enraged us;
26:56 And indeed, we are a cautious society…
26:57 So, We expelled them from gardens and springs,
26:58 Treasures, and every kind of honorable place.
26:59 So it was. And We awarded it ˹all˺ to the Children of Israel.
26:60 So they pursued them at sunrise.
26:61 When the two groups came face to face, the companions of Moses cried out, “We are overtaken for sure.”
26:62 Musa reassured ˹them˺, “Absolutely not! My Lord is certainly with me—He will guide me.”
26:63 So We inspired Moses: “Strike the sea with your stick,” and the sea was split, each part was like a huge mountain.
26:64 Then We brought near the others [Fir'aun's party] to that place.
26:65 And We saved Musa and all those with him.
26:66 Then We drowned the others.
26:67 Verily, in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.
26:68 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
PROPHET IBRAHIM
26:69 And recite to them the story of Ibrahim
26:70 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?"
26:71They replied, “We worship idols, to which we are fully devoted.”
26:72 Ibrahim asked, “Can they hear you when you call upon them?
26:73 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?"
26:74 They replied, “No! But we found our forefathers doing the same.”
26:75 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshiping,
26:76 You and your ancient forefathers?
26:77 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds,
26:78"Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me;
26:79"And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink.
26:80"And when I am ill, it is He who cures me;
26:81"And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again);
26:82"And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Judgment
26:83"My Lord, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous.
26:84 And grant me an honorable mention in later generations;
26:85 Make me one of those awarded the Garden of Bliss.
26:86 Forgive my father, for he is certainly one of the misguided.
26:87 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected -
26:88 The Day when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit.
26:89 Only those who come before Allah with a pure heart ˹will be saved
26:90 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun
26:91 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators
26:92 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship
26:93 Other than Allah ? Can they help you or help themselves?"
26:94 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error).
26:95 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together.
26:96 There the deviant will cry while disputing with their idols,
26:97“By Allah! We were clearly mistaken,
26:98 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin
26:99 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun
26:100 So now we have no intercessors
26:101 Nor a close friend (to help us).
26:102 If only we could have a second chance, then we would be believers.”
26:103 Verily, in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.
26:104 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
PROPHET NUH
26:105 The people of Nuh rejected the Messengers.
26:106 When their brother Nuh (Noah) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah?
26:107"I am a trustworthy Messenger to you.
26:108 So fear Allah and obey me.
26:109 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
26:110 So fear Allah and obey me."
26:111 They said, "Should we believe you while you are followed by the lowest [class of people]?"
26:112 He responded, “And what knowledge do I have of what they do?
26:113 Their judgment is with my Lord, if you had any sense!
26:114 "And I am not going to drive away the believers.
26:115 I am only a clear warner."
26:116 They threatened, “If you do not desist, O Noah, you will surely be stoned ˹to death˺.”
26:117 Then Noah said, "Lord, my people have rejected me.
26:118 Therefore judge You between me and them, and save me and those of the believers who are with me."
26:119 So We saved him and those with him in the fully loaded Ark.
26:120 Then afterwards We drowned the rest.
26:121 Verily, in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.
26:122 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
PROPHET HUD
26:123 The people of ’Âd rejected the messengers
26:124 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah ?
26:125"Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you.
26:126 So fear Allah and obey me.
26:127 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
26:128"Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them?
26:129 and construct castles, as if you are going to live forever,
26:130 and act so viciously when you attack ˹others˺?
26:131 So fear Allah and obey me.
26:132 Fear the One Who has provided you with ˹the good˺ things you know:
26:133 He provided you with cattle, and children,
26:134 And gardens and springs.
26:135 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day."
26:136 They responded, “It is all the same to us whether you warn ˹us˺ or not.
26:137 This is not but the custom of the former peoples,
26:138 And we are not to be punished."
26:139 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.
26:140 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
PROPHET SALIH
26:141 The people of Thamûd rejected the messengers
26:142 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah ?
26:143"I am a trustworthy Messenger to you.
26:144 So fear Allah and obey me.
26:145 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
26:146"Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever
26:147 "In gardens and springs.
26:148 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit?
26:149 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill.
26:150 So fear Allah and obey me.
26:151 And do not follow the command of the transgressors,
26:152 who spread corruption throughout the land, never setting things right.”
26:153 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic.
26:154"You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful."
26:155 Ṣâliḥ said, “Here is a camel. She will have her turn to drink as you have yours, each on an appointed day.
26:156 And do not ever touch her with harm, or you will be overtaken by the torment of a tremendous day.”
26:157 But they killed her, and then they became regretful.
26:158 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers.
26:159 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
PROPHET LUT
26:160 The people of Lot rejected the Messengers.
26:161 When their brother Lot said to them, "Will you not fear Allah ?
26:162"Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you.
26:163 So fear Allah and obey me.
26:164 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
26:165 Why do you ˹men˺ lust after fellow men
26:166 leaving the wives that your Lord has created for you? In fact, you are a transgressing people.”
26:167 They threatened, “If you do not desist, O Lot, you will surely be expelled.”
26:168 Lot responded, “I am truly one of those who despise your ˹shameful˺ practice.
26:169"My Lord! Save me and my family from what they do."
26:170 So We saved him and all of his family,
26:171 Except an old woman (his wife) among those who remained behind.
26:172 Then We destroyed the others.
26:173 And We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned.
26:174 Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers.
26:175 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
AL-AIYAKA-RESIDENT OF THE FOREST
26:176 The residents of the Forest rejected the messengers
26:177 When Shu'ayb said to them, "Will you not fear Allah ?
26:178 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.
26:179 So fear Allah and obey me.
26:180 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
26:181 Give full measure and do not be of those who cause loss.
26:182 And weigh with an even balance.
26:183"And defraud not people by reducing their things, nor do evil, making corruption and mischief in the land.
26:184 And fear the One Who created you and ˹all˺ earlier peoples.”
26:185 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic.
26:186"You are but a human being like us and verily, we think that you are one of the liars!
26:187"So cause a piece of the heaven to fall on us, if you are of the truthful!"
26:188 He said: "My Lord is the Best Knower of what you do."
26:189 And they denied him, so the punishment of the day of the black cloud seized them. Indeed, it was the punishment of a terrible day.
26:190 Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers.
26:191 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
QURAN
26:192 And indeed, the Qur'an is the revelation of the Lord of the worlds.
26:193 Which the trustworthy Ruh [Jibrael] has brought down;
26:194 Upon your heart (O Muhammad SAW) that you may be (one) of the warners,
26:195 In a clear Arabic language.
26:196 And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples.
26:197 Was it not sufficient proof for the deniers that it has been recognized by the knowledgeable among the Children of Israel?
26:198 And even if We had revealed it to a non Arab
26:199 And he had recited it to them [perfectly], they would [still] not have been believers in it.
NOT BELIEVING IN QURAN
26:200 Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals.
26:201 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment.
26:202 which will take them by surprise when they least expect ˹it˺.
26:203 Then they will cry, “Can we be allowed more time?”
26:204 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on?
26:205 Imagine ˹O Prophet˺ if We allowed them enjoyment for years,
26:206 And then there came to them that which they were promised?
26:207 would that enjoyment be of any benefit to them ˹at all˺?
26:208 And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners
26:209 By way of reminder, and We have never been unjust.
26:210 And it is not the Shayatin (devils) who have brought it (this Quran) down,
26:211 It is not allowable for them, nor would they be able.
26:212 Verily, they have been removed far from hearing it.
26:213 So do not ever call upon any other god besides Allah, or you will be one of the punished.
26:214 And warn your tribe (O Muhammad SAW) of near relative.
26:215 And be kind and humble to the believers who follow you.
26:216 And if they disobey you, then say, "Indeed, I am disassociated from what you are doing."
26:217 And put your trust in the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful,
26:218 Who sees you when you rise ˹for prayer at night˺,
26:219 as well as your movements ˹in prayer˺ along with ˹fellow˺ worshippers.
26:220 Verily! He, only He, is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.
26:221 Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin (devils) descend?
26:222 They descend upon every sinful liar,
26:223 They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars.
26:224 And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them;
26:225 Do you not see that in every valley they roam
26:226 And that they say what they do not do? -
26:227 Except those [poets] who believe and do righteous deeds and remember Allah often and defend [the Muslims] after they were wronged. And those who have wronged are going to know to what [kind of] return they will be returned.
