SURAH AN-NAHL
The Bee
(Maccie, Surah # 16, Verses 128 )
16:1 The command (Hour) of Allah is coming, so be not impatient for it. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him.
16:2 He sends the angels with the Spirit to carry His orders to whichever of His servants He wants so that they would "Warn that there is no deity except Me; so fear Me."
16:3 He created the heavens and the earth for a purpose. Exalted is He above what they associate with Him ˹in worship˺!
16:4 He has created man from sperm-drop, then behold, this same (man) becomes an open opponent.
ALLAH CREATED CATTLE, HORSES, MULE AND DONKEYS FOR MANKIND
16:5 And the cattle, He has created them for you; in them there is warmth (warm clothing), and numerous benefits, and of them you eat.
16:6 And for you in them is [the enjoyment of] beauty when you bring them in [for the evening] and when you send them out [to pasture].
16:7 And they carry your loads to a land you could not have reached except with difficulty to yourselves. Indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful.
16:8 And [He created] the horses, mules and donkeys for you to ride and [as] adornment. And He creates that which you do not know.
16:9 And upon Allah is the responsibility to explain the Straight Path (i.e. Islam), but there are ways that turn aside ( Judaism, Christianity, etc.). And had He willed, He would have guided you all (mankind).
ALLAH’S SIGN EVERYWHERE
16:10 He it is Who sends down water (rain) from the sky; from it you drink and from it (grows) the vegetation on which you send your cattle to pasture;
16:11 With it He produces for you ˹various˺ crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and every type of fruit. Surely in this is a sign for those who reflect.
16:12 And He has subjected for you the night and day and the sun and moon, and the stars are subjected by His command. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.
16:13 And whatsoever He has created for you on this earth of varying colors [and qualities from vegetation and fruits, etc.]. Verily! In this is a sign for people who remember.
16:14 And it is He who subjected the sea for you to eat from it tender meat and to extract from it ornaments which you wear. And you see the ships plowing through it, and [He subjected it] that you may seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful.
16:15 He has placed into the earth firm mountains, so it does not shake with you, as well as rivers, and pathways so you may find your way.
16:16 The stars and other signs also help people to find their way.
16:17 Is the One who can create equal to the one who cannot create anything? Why, then, will you not consider?
16:18 Even if you wanted to count up all of Allah's blessings, you would not be able to. Allah is All-forgiving and All-merciful.
16:19 And Allah knows what you conceal and what you reveal.
16:20 Whatever (idols) they worship besides God can create nothing for they are themselves created.
16:21 (They are) dead, lifeless, and they know not when they will be raised up.
16:22 Your God is ˹only˺ One God. As for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, their hearts are in denial, and they are too proud.
16:23 Certainly, Allah knows what they conceal and what they reveal. Truly, He likes not the proud.
16:24 When it is said to them, "What is it that your Lord has revealed?" They say, "Tales of the ancients!"
16:25 They will bear their own burdens in full on the Day of Resurrection, and also of the burdens of those whom they misled without knowledge. Evil indeed is that which they shall bear!
16:26 Those before them did also plot (against Allah's Way): but Allah took their structures from their foundations, and the roof fell down on them from above; and torment struck them from a direction which they had never expected.
16:27 Then on the Day of Judgment He (Allah) will humiliate them and say, “Where are My ˹so-called˺ associate-gods for whose sake you used to oppose ˹the believers˺?” Those gifted with knowledge will say, “Surely disgrace and misery today are upon the disbelievers.”
16:28 The ones whom the angels take in death [while] wronging themselves, and [who] then offer submission, [saying], "We were not doing any evil." But, yes! Indeed, Allah is Knowing of what you used to do.
16:29 So enter the gates of Hell, to stay there forever. Indeed, what an evil home for the arrogant!”
16:30 And it will be said to those who feared Allah, "What did your Lord send down?" They will say, "[That which is] good." For those who do good in this world is good; and the home of the Hereafter is better. And how excellent is the home of the righteous -
16:31 the Gardens of Eternity which they will enter, under which rivers flow. In it they will have whatever they desire. This is how Allah rewards the righteous—
16:32 They will be received by the angels of mercy with the greeting, "Peace be with you. Enter Paradise as a reward for your good deeds."
16:33 Do they (the disbelievers) await but that the angels should come to them [to take away their souls], or there should come the command of your Lord? Thus did those before them. And Allah wronged them not, but they used to wrong themselves.
16:34 The evil consequences of their deeds afflicted them and they were surrounded by what they had mocked.
16:35 And they who give associates (to Allah) say: "Had God wanted we would not have worshiped anything other than Him, nor would our fathers. We would not have forbidden anything without (a command from) Him." The same thing was said by the people who lived before them. Are the Messengers expected to do more than just preach?
16:36 To every nation We sent a Messenger who told its people, "Worship Allah and stay away from shaitan." Some of them were guided by Allah and others were doomed to go astray. Travel through the land and see how terrible the end was for those who rejected the truth!
16:37 (Muhammad), even though you have a strong desire to guide them, be sure that Allah will not guide those who have gone astray and no one will be able to help them.
16:38 They strongly swear by Allah that He will not bring the dead to life. Allah's promise (of the Resurrection) will certainly come true but many people do not know.
16:39 (Through the resurrection) Allah wants to make a clear distinction between right and wrong and make the unbelievers know that they were liars.
16:40 Our word for a thing when We intend it, is only that We say to it, Be, and it is.
16:41 And those who emigrated for [the cause of] Allah after they had been wronged - We will surely settle them in this world in a good place; but the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if only they could know.
16:42 (They are) those who remained patient, and put their trust in their Lord (Allah Alone).
16:43 And We sent not before you except men to whom We revealed [Our message]. So ask the people of the message if you do not know.
16:44 We have revealed the Quran to you so that you could tell the people what has been revealed to them and so that perhaps they will think.
16:45 Then, do those who have planned evil deeds feel secure that Allah will not cause the earth to swallow them or that the punishment will not come upon them from where they do not perceive?
16:46 Or that He would not seize them during their [usual] activity, so that there be no escape for them (from Allah's Punishment)?
16:47 Or that He will not destroy them gradually? But your Lord is truly Ever Gracious, Most Merciful.
16:48 Have they not observed things that Allah has created, (how) their shadows incline to the right and to the left, prostrating to Allah , while they are humble.
16:49 And to Allah ˹alone˺ bows down ˹in submission˺whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth of living creatures, as do the angels—who are not too proud ˹to do so˺.
16:50 They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded.
16:51 And Allah has said, "Do not take for yourselves two deities. He is but one God, so fear only Me."
16:52 And to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and to Him is [due] worship constantly. Then is it other than Allah that you fear?
16:53 Whatever blessings you have are from Allah. Then whenever hardship touches you, to Him ˹alone˺ you cry ˹for help˺.
16:54 Then as soon as He removes the hardship from you, a group of you associates ˹others˺ with their Lord ˹in worship˺,
16:55 So they will deny what We have given them. Then enjoy yourselves you will soon know (the consequences of your deeds).
16:56 And they ˹even˺ assign to those ˹idols˺—who know nothing—a share of what We have provided for them. By Allah! You will certainly be questioned about whatever ˹lies˺ you used to fabricate ˹against Allah˺.
16:57 And they attribute to Allah daughters - exalted is He-and for themselves (they would have) what they desire.
16:58 And when one of them is informed of [the birth of] a female, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief.
16:59 He hides himself from the people because of the bad news he has received. Should he keep her in disgrace, or bury her ˹alive˺ in the ground? Evil indeed is their judgment!1
16:60 For those who do not believe in the Hereafter is the description of evil; and for Allah is the highest attribute. And He is Exalted in Might, the Wise.
16:61 If Allah were to punish people ˹immediately˺ for their wrongdoing, He would not have left a single living being on earth. But He delays them for an appointed term. And when their time arrives, they cannot delay it for a moment, nor could they advance it.
16:62 They attribute to Allah what they hate ˹for themselves˺,1 and their tongues utter the lie that they will have the finest reward. Without a doubt, for them is the Fire, where they will be abandoned.
16:63 By Allah , We did certainly send [messengers] to nations before you, but Shaitan made their deeds attractive to them. And he is the disbelievers' alli today [as well], and they will have a painful punishment.
16:64 We have revealed to you the Book only to clarify for them what they differed about, and as a guide and mercy for those who believe.
16:65 And Allah sends down rain from the sky, giving life to the earth after its death. Surely in this is a sign for those who listen.
16:66 And there is certainly a lesson for you in cattle: We give you to drink of what is in their bellies, from between digested food and blood: pure milk, pleasant to drink.
16:67 And from the fruits of date-palms and grapes, you take intoxicants (this was before the order of the prohibition of the alcoholic drinks) and a goodly provision. Verily, therein is indeed a sign for people who have wisdom.
BEES
16:68 Your Lord inspired the bees, "Make hives in the mountains, in the trees and in what they build:
16:69 then eat of every fruit and follow the path of your Lord submissively." From out of their bellies comes a drink of different color in which there is a cure for the human being. In this there is evidence (of the truth) for the people of understanding.
OLD AGE
16:70 Allah has created you and He causes you to die. Some of you will grow to an extremely old age and lose your memory. God is All-knowing and Almighty.
16:71 And Allah has preferred some of you above others in wealth and properties. Then, those who are preferred will by no means hand over their wealth and properties to those (slaves) whom their right hands possess, so that they may be equal with them in respect thereof. Do they then deny the Favor of Allah?
16:72 And Allah has made for you spouses of your own kind, and given you through your spouses children and grandchildren. And He has granted you good, lawful provisions. Then in falsehood do they believe and in the favor of Allah they disbelieve?
16:73 And they worship others besides Allah, such as do not and cannot own any provision for them from the heavens or the earth.
16:74 Do not consider anything equal to God. God knows that which you do not know.
16:75 Allah present an example: a slave who lacks all means, compared to a ˹free˺ man to whom We granted a good provision, of which he donates ˹freely,˺ openly and secretly. Are they equal? Praise be to Allah. In fact, most of them do not know.
16:76 And Allah presents an example of two men, one of them dumb and unable to do a thing, while he is a burden to his guardian. Wherever he directs him, he brings no good. Is he equal to one who commands justice, while he is on a straight path?
DAY OF JUDGMENT IS NEAR
16:77 And to Allah belongs the unseen of the heavens and the earth. And the matter of the Hour (judgment day) is not but as a twinkling of the eye, or even nearer. Truly! Allah is Able to do all things.
16:78 And Allah has brought you out from the wombs of your mothers while you know nothing. And He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts that you might give thanks (to Allah).
16:79 Have they not seen the birds glide in the open sky? None holds them up except Allah. Surely in this are signs for those who believe.
ALLAH HAS PROVIDED NECESSITIES OF LIFE
16:80 And Allah has made your homes a place to rest, and made for you out of the skin of the cattle (tents for) dwelling, which you find so light (and handy) when you travel and when you stay (in your travels), and of their wool, fur, and hair (sheep wool, camel fur, and goat hair), a furnishing and articles of convenience (e.g. carpets, blankets, etc.), a comfort for a while.
16:81 And Allah has provided you shade out of what He created, and has given you shelter in the mountains. He has also provided you with clothes protecting you from the heat ˹and cold˺, and armor shielding you in battle. This is how He perfects His favor upon you, so perhaps you will ˹fully˺ submit ˹to Him˺.
16:82 But if they turn away, then your duty ˹O Prophet˺ is only to deliver ˹the message˺ clearly.
16:83 They are aware of Allah’s favors, but still deny them. And most of them are ˹truly˺ ungrateful.
16:84 And (remember) the Day when We shall raise up from each nation a witness (their Messenger), then, those who have disbelieved will not be given leave (to put forward excuses), nor will they be allowed (to return to the world) to repent and ask for Allah's Forgiveness (of their sins, etc.).
16:85 And when those who wronged see the punishment, it will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved.
16:86 And when those who associated partners with Allah see their (Allah's so-called) partners, they will say: "Our Lord! These are our partners whom we used to invoke besides you." But they will throw back their word at them (and say): "Surely! You indeed are liars!"
16:87(On the Day of Judgment) the disbelievers will submit themselves to Allah and whatever they had falsely invented will disappear.
16:88 For those who disbelieve and hinder ˹others˺ from the Way of Allah, We will add more punishment to their punishment for all the corruption they spread.
16:89 And on the day when We will raise up in every people a witness against them from among themselves, and bring you (Muhammad) as a witness against these-- and We have revealed the Book to you explaining clearly everything, and a guidance and mercy and good news for those who submit.
16:90 Verily, Allah orders Al-Adl (justice) and Al-Ihsan [good conduct], and giving (help) to relative and forbids Al-Fahsha' (immorality), and Al-Munkar (bad conduct), and Al-Baghy (oppression), He instructs you, that you may take heed.
16:91 And fulfill the covenant of Allah when you have taken it, [O believers], and do not break oaths after their confirmation while you have made Allah , over you, a witness. Indeed, Allah knows what you do.
16:92 Do not be like the woman who ˹foolishly˺ unravels her yarn after it is firmly spun, by taking your oaths as a means of deceiving one another in favor of a stronger group. Surely Allah tests you through this. And on the Day of Judgment He will certainly make your differences clear to you.
16:93 Had Allah willed, He could have easily made you one community ˹of believers˺, but He leaves to stray whoever He wills and guides whoever He wills.1 And you will certainly be questioned about what you used to do.
16:94 And do not take your oaths as a means of deceiving one another or your feet will slip after they have been firm. Then you will taste the evil ˹consequences˺ of hindering ˹others˺ from the Way of Allah, and you will suffer a tremendous punishment.
16:95 And do not exchange the covenant of Allah for a small price. Indeed, what is with Allah is best for you, if only you could know.
16:96 Whatever you have will end, but what Allah has is lasting. And We will surely give those who were patient their reward according to the best of what they used to do.
16:97 Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do.
QURAN
16:98 So when you recite the Qur'an, [first] seek refuge in Allah from the mischief of Shaitan.
16:99 Shaitan has certainly no authority over the believers who put their trust in their Lord.
16:100 His power is only over those who obey and follow him (Shaitan), and those who join partners with Him (Allah)
16:101 When We replace a verse with another1—and Allah knows best what He reveals, they say, "You, [O Muhammad], are but an inventor [of lies]." But most of them do not know.
16:102 Say (O Muhammad SAW) Ruh-ul-Qudus [Jibrael] has brought it (the Quran) down from your Lord with truth, that it may make firm and strengthen (the Faith of) those who believe and as a guidance and glad tidings to those who have submitted (to Allah as Muslims).
16:103 And We certainly know that they say, "It is only a human being who teaches the Prophet." The tongue of the one they refer to is foreign, and this Qur'an is [in] a clear Arabic language.
16:104 Indeed, those who do not believe in the verses of Allah - Allah will not guide them, and for them is a painful punishment.
16:105 Those who do not believe in the miracles of Allah invent lies and they are liars
16:106 Whoever disbelieves in Allah after his belief... except for one who is forced [to renounce his religion] while his heart is secure in faith. But those who [willingly] open their hearts to disbelief, upon them is wrath from Allah , and for them is a great punishment;
16:107 That is because they preferred the worldly life over the Hereafter and that Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.
16:108 Allah has sealed their hearts, ears and eyes and they are not aware of it.
16:109 Without a doubt, they will be the losers in the Hereafter.
16:110 Those who left their homes for the cause of God after they had been persecuted, strove hard for His cause and exercised patience should know (even though they had verbally renounced their faith) that your Lord is All-forgiving and All-merciful.
16:111 On the Day when every soul will come disputing for itself, and every soul will be fully compensated for what it did, and they will not be wronged.
16:112 And Allah presents an example: a city which was safe and secure, its provision coming to it in abundance from every location, but it denied the favors of Allah. So Allah made it taste the extreme of hunger (famine) and fear, because of that (evil, i.e. denying Prophet Muhammad SAW) which they (its people) used to do.
16:113 And there had certainly come to them a Messenger from among themselves, but they denied him; so punishment overtook them while they were wrongdoers.
16:114 Then eat of what Allah has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And be grateful for the favor of Allah , if it is [indeed] Him that you worship.
16:115 The only things which are made unlawful for you are the flesh of dead animals, blood, pork and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, and not transgressing, then, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
16:116 Do not falsely declare with your tongues,"This is lawful and this is unlawful," so as to invent lies against Allah. Verily, those who invent lies against Allah will never succeed.
16:117 [It is but] a brief enjoyment, and they will have a painful punishment.
16:118 To the Jews, We have forbidden what We related to you before.1 We did not wrong them, but it was they who wronged themselves.
16:119 Then, indeed your Lord, to those who have done wrong out of ignorance and then repent after that and correct themselves - indeed, your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.
16:120 Indeed, Ibrahim was a model of excellence: devoted to Allah, ˹perfectly˺ upright—not a polytheist—
16:121 [He was] grateful for Allah’s favors. Allah chose him and guided him to a straight path.
16:122 And We gave him good in this world, and indeed, in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous.
16:123 Then We revealed to you, [O Muhammad], to follow the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth; and he was not of those who associate with Allah.
16:124 The Sabbath was only prescribed for those who differed concerning it, and verily, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection about that wherein they used to differ.
PREACH
16:125 Invite (mankind, O Muhammad SAW) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.
16:126 And if you punish [an enemy, O believers], punish with an equivalent of that with which you were harmed. But if you are patient - it is better for those who are patient.
16:127 And be patient, [O Muhammad], and your patience is not but through Allah. And do not grieve over them and do not be in distress over what they conspire.
16:128 Indeed, Allah is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good.
