SURAH AS- SAFFAT
The Rangers
(Maccie, Surah # 37, Verses 182 )
ANGELS
37:1 I swear by (the angels) who lined up in rows
37:2 And those who drive away strongly (to protect Our revelation),
37:3 And those who recite the message (bring revelation down)
37:4 Indeed, your Lord is One
37:5 Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and all that is between them, and Lord of every point of the sun's risings.
37:6 Verily! We have adorned the near heaven with the stars (for beauty).
37:7 And to guard against every rebellious devil.
37:8[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are struck from all sides
37:9 Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment,
37:10 Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness].
37:11 Then ask them (O Muhammad): "Which is harder to create, them or those (angels, moon & stars)?" Verily, We created them of a sticky clay.
DENIAL
37:12 Nay, you (O Muhammad) wondered while they mock (at you and at the Quran).
37:13 And when they are reminded, they pay no attention.
37:14 And when they see a sign, they mock
37:15 And they say: "This is nothing but clear magic!
37:16 "When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we (then) certainly be resurrected?
37:17 And our forefathers [as well]?"
37:18 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Yes, and you shall then be humiliated."
37:19 It will only take one Blast, then at once they will see ˹it all˺.
37:20 They will say: "Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!
37:21 (It will be said): "This is the Day of Judgment which you used to deny."
37:22 [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their spouses, and what they used to worship
37:23 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell);
37:24"And stop them, verily they are to be questioned.
37:25 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?"
37:26 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender (fully submissive)
37:27 And they will turn to one another and question one another.
37:28 The misled will say, “It was you who deluded us away from what is right.”
37:29 The misleaders will reply, “No! You disbelieved on your own.
37:30 We had no authority over you. In fact, you yourselves were transgressing people.
37:31"So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment).
37:32 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray."
37:33 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment.
37:34 Certainly, that is how We deal with AlMujrimun (Disbeliever)
37:35 For whenever it was said to them ˹in the world˺, “There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah,” they acted arrogantly
37:36 And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet?
37:37 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.
37:38 You will certainly taste the painful torment,
37:39 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve.
HEAVEN
37:40 But not the chosen servants of Allah.
37:41 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise).
37:42 Fruits; and they will be honored
37:43 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise),
37:44 facing each other on thrones.
37:45 A drink ˹of pure wine˺ will be passed around to them from a flowing stream:
37:46 White, delicious to the drinkers,
37:47 It will neither harm ˹them˺, nor will they be intoxicated by it.
37:48 And with them will be maidens of modest gaze and gorgeous eyes,
37:49 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected.
CONVERSATION BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE IN HEAVEN
37:50 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
37:51 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth]
37:52 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death).
37:53 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment
37:54 He will ˹then˺ ask, “Would you care to see ˹his fate˺?”
37:55 Then he ˹and the others˺ will look and spot him in the midst of the Hellfire.
37:56 He will say, "By Allah , you almost ruined me.
37:57 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell].
37:58 ˹(Then he will ask his fellow believers),˺ “Can you imagine that we will never die,
37:59 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?"
37:60 Verily this is the supreme achievement!
37:61 For such ˹honor˺ all should strive.
HELL (TREE OF ZAQQUM)
37:62 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum?
37:63 Indeed, We have made it a trial for the wrongdoers.
37:64 Verily, it is a tree that grows out of the bottom of Hell-fire,
37:65 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.
37:66 The evildoers will certainly ˹be left to˺ eat from it, filling up their bellies with it.
37:67 Then on the top of that they will be given a blend of boiling water
37:68 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell.
37:69 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path;
37:70 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.
37:71 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples,
PROPHET NUH
37:72 And We had certainly sent among them warners.
37:73 Then see what was the end of those who were warned
37:74 Except the chosen slaves of Allah
37:75 And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders.
37:76 And We rescued him and his family from the great distress
37:77 And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]
37:78 And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations
37:79 Salamun (peace) be upon Nuh (from Us) among the 'Alamin
37:80 Indeed, this is how We reward the good-doers.
37:81 Verily, he [Nuh] was one of Our believing slaves.
37:82 Then We drowned the disbelievers.
PROPHET IBRAHIM
37:83 And indeed, one of those who followed his way was Ibrahim.
37:84 When he came to his Lord with a pure heart
37:85 When he said to his father and to his people: "What is it that which you worship?
37:86 Is it false gods that you desire instead of Allah?
37:87 "Then what do you think about the Lord of the 'Alamin
37:88 And he cast a look at the stars
37:89 And he said: "Verily, I am sick
37:90 So they turned away from him, and departed
37:91 Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat? (your offerings)
37:92 What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?"
37:93 Then he turned upon them, striking (them) with (his) right hand.
37:94 Then the people came toward him, hastening.
37:95 He argued, “How can you worship what you carve ˹with your own hands˺,
37:96 "While Allah has created you and what you make!"
37:97 They said ˹to one another˺, “Build him a furnace and cast him into the blazing fire.”
37:98 So they plotted a plot against him, but We made them the lowest.
37:99 He later said, “I am leaving ˹in obedience˺ to my Lord. He will guide me.
37:100 My Lord! Bless me with righteous offspring.”
37:101 So We gave him good news of a forbearing son.
SACRIFICE OF ISMAIL
37:102 Then when the boy reached the age to work with him, Ibrahim said, “O my dear son! I have seen in a dream that I ˹must˺ sacrifice you. So tell me what you think.” He replied, “O my dear father! Do as you are commanded. Allah willing, you will find me steadfast.”
37:103 And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead,
37:104 We called out to him, “O Ibrahim!
37:105 You have fulfilled the dream (vision)!" Verily! Thus do We reward the Muhsinun
37:106 Verily, that indeed was a manifest trial
37:107 And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,
37:108 And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations
37:109 Salamun (peace) be upon Ibrahim
37:110th Indeed do We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers)
37:111 Verily, he was one of Our believing slaves.
37:112 And We gave him the glad tidings of Ishaque (Isaac) a Prophet from the righteous.
37:113 We blessed him and Isaac as well. Some of their descendants did good, while others clearly wronged themselves.
PROPHET MUSA AND PROPHET HAROON
37:114 And We certainly showed favor to Moses and Aaron,
37:115 And We saved them and their people from the great distress;
37:116 And helped them, so that they became the victors;
37:117 And We gave them the clear Scripture;
37:118 And guided them to the Right Path;
37:119 And We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations:
37:120 Salamun (peace) be upon Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)!"
37:121 Verily, thus do We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers)
37:122 Verily! They were two of Our believing slaves.
PROPHET LLIYAS
37:123 And verily, Iliyas (Elias) was one of the Messengers.
37:124 When he said to his people: "Will you not fear Allah?
37:125 "Will you call upon Ba'l (idol of his nation) and leave the Best of creators,
37:126 "Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?"
37:127 And they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment],
37:128 Except the chosen slaves of Allah.
37:129 And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
37:130 Salamun (peace) be upon Ilyasin (Elias)!"
37:131 Verily, thus do We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers)
37:132 Verily, he was one of Our believing slaves.
PROPHET LUT
37:133 And verily, Lout (Lot) was one of the Messengers.
37:134 When We saved him and his family, all,
37:135 Except an old woman (his wife) who was among those who remained behind.
37:136 Then We destroyed the rest
37:137 And indeed, you pass by them(their ruined town) in the morning
37:138 and night. Will you not then understand?
PROPHET YUNUS
37:139 And, verily, Yunus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers.
37:140 Remember˺ when he ran to the overloaded ship.
37:141 And he drew lots and was among the losers (he was thrown into the water)
37:142 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame.
37:143 Had he not ˹constantly˺ glorified ˹Allah˺,
37:144 He would have certainly remained in its belly until the Day of Resurrection.
37:145 But We cast him onto the open ˹shore˺, ˹totally˺ worn out,
37:146 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him.
37:147 And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more.
37:148 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PROOF THAT ALLAH HAS CHILDREN
37:149 Ask them ˹O Prophet˺ if your Lord has daughters, while the pagans ˹prefer to˺ have sons.
37:150 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?"
37:151 Indeed, it is one of their ˹outrageous˺ fabrications to say,
37:152“Allah has children.” They are simply liars.
37:153 Has He chosen daughters over sons?
37:154 What is the matter with you? How do you judge?
37:155 Will you not then remember?
37:156 Or do you have ˹any˺ compelling proof?
37:157 Then bring ˹us˺ your scripture, if what you say is true!
37:158 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment].
37:159 Glorified is Allah far above what they claim!
37:160 Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin].
37:161 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship,
37:162 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers]
37:163 except those ˹destined˺ to burn in Hell.
ANGELS RESPONDED
37:164˹The angels respond,˺ “There is not one of us without an assigned station ˹of worship˺.
37:165 And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer].
37:166 And we are indeed the ones ˹constantly˺ glorifying ˹His praise˺.”
37:167 And indeed, the disbelievers used to say,
37:168"If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples,
37:169 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah."
37:170 But ˹now˺ they reject it, so they will soon know.
37:171 Our Word has already gone forth to Our servants, the messengers,
37:172[That] indeed, they would be those given victory
37:173 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome.
37:174 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time.
37:175 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see.
37:176 Do they ˹really˺ wish to hasten Our punishment?
37:177 Yet when it descends upon them:1 how evil will that morning be for those who had been warned!
37:178 And turn away from them for a while.
37:179 You will see, and they too will see!
37:180 سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
Glorified is your Lord—the Lord of Honor and Power—above what they claim!
وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ 37:18
37:181 Peace be upon the messengers.
وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ 37:182
37:182 And praise to Allah , Lord of the worlds.
