SURAH AL- FATH
The Victory
(Madnie, Surah # 48, Verses 29 )
ALLAH’S FAVOR UPON PROPHET MUHAMMAD
48:1 Verily, We have given you (O Muhammad SAW) a manifest victory.
48:2 That Allah may forgive you your sins of the past and the future, and complete His Favour on you, and guide you on the Straight Path;
48:3 and so that Allah will help you tremendously.
48:4 He is the One Who sent down serenity( calmness) upon the hearts of the believers so that they may increase even more in their faith. To Allah ˹alone˺ belong the forces of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
BELIEVING MEN & WOMEN
48:5 So He may admit believing men and women into Gardens under which rivers flow—to stay there forever—and absolve them of their sins. And that is a supreme achievement in the sight of Allah.
HYPOCRITES & MUSHRIK MAN AND WOMEN
48:6 And that He may punish the Munafiqun (hypocrites), men and women, and also the Mushrikun men and women, who think evil thoughts about Allah, for them is a disgraceful torment, and the Anger of Allah is upon them, and He has cursed them and prepared Hell for them, and worst indeed is that destination.
48:7 To Allah ˹alone˺ belong the forces of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.
48:8 Verily, We have sent you (O Muhammad SAW) as a witness, as a bearer of glad tidings, and as a warner.
48:9 So that you ˹believers˺ may have faith in Allah and His Messenger, support and honor him, and glorify Allah morning and evening.
PLEDGE
48:10 Verily, those who give Bai'a (pledge) to you (O Muhammad SAW) they are giving Bai'a (pledge) to Allah. The Hand of Allah is over their hands. Then whosoever breaks his pledge, breaks only to his own harm, and whosoever fulfills what he has covenanted with Allah, He will bestow on him a great reward.
48:11The nomadic Arabs, who stayed behind, will say to you ˹O Prophet˺, “We were preoccupied with our wealth and families, so ask for forgiveness for us.” They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say, “Who then can stand between you and Allah in any way, if He intends harm or benefit for you? In fact, Allah is All-Aware of what you do.
48:12"Nay, but you thought that the Messenger (SAW) and the believers would never return to their families; and that was made appealing in your heart and you did think an evil thought and you became a useless people going for destruction."
48:13 And whoever does not believe in Allah and His Messenger, then We surely have prepared for the disbelievers a blazing Fire.
48:14 To Allah ˹alone˺ belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He forgives whoever He wills, and punishes whoever He wills. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
48:15 Those who stayed behind will say, when you ˹believers˺ set out to take the spoils of war (baitul-mal), “Let us accompany you.” They wish to change Allah’s promise. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “You will not accompany us. This is what Allah has said before.” They will then say, “In fact, you are driven by jealousy against us!” The truth is: they can hardly comprehend.
48:16 Say to nomadic Arabs, who stayed behind, “You will be called ˹to fight˺ against a people of great might, who you will fight unless they submit. If you then obey, Allah will grant you a fine reward. But if you turn away as you did before, He will inflict upon you a painful punishment.”
48:17 There is no blame on the blind, or the disabled, or the sick ˹for staying behind˺. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger will be admitted by Him into Gardens under which rivers flow. But whoever turns away will be subjected by Him to a painful punishment.
48:18 Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers when they gave their Bai'a (pledge) to you (O Muhammad SAW) under the tree, He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down As-Sakinah (calmness and tranquility) upon them, and He rewarded them with a near victory,
48:19 and many spoils of war they will gain. For Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.
48:20 Allah has promised that you will receive abundant spoils. He has enabled you to receive this at this time and has protected you from enemies to make it an evidence (of the Truth) for the believers. He will guide you to the right path.
48:21 And ˹there are˺ other gains which are beyond your reach that Allah is keeping in store ˹for you˺. For Allah is Most Capable of everything.
48:22 And if those who disbelieve fight against you, they certainly would have turned their backs, then they would have found neither a Wali (protector) nor a helper.
48:23 That has been the Way of Allah already with those who passed away before. And you will not find any change in the Way of Allah.
48:24 He is the One Who held back their hands from you and your hands from them in the valley of ˹Ḥudaibiyah, near˺ Mecca, after giving you the upper hand over ˹a group of˺ them. And Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.
48:25 It was the disbelievers who kept you from the Sacred Mosque and prevented your sacrificial offering from reaching its proper place. God would not have kept you from fighting the disbelievers, had there not been believing men and women (among them) whom you did not know and whom you might have unknowingly harmed. God did this because He grants mercy to whomever He wants. Had they been distinguishable from the believers, We would certainly have punished them with a painful torment.
48:26 When those who disbelieve had put in their hearts pride and haughtiness the pride and haughtiness of the time of ignorance, then Allah sent down His Sakinah (calmness and tranquility) upon His Messenger ( SAW) and upon the believers, and made them stick to the word of piety, and they were well entitled to it and worthy of it. And Allah is the All-Knower of everything.
48:27 Indeed Allah shall fulfill the true vision which He showed to His Messenger (SAW) [i.e. the Prophet SAW saw a dream that he has entered Makkah along with his companions, having their (head) hair shaved and cut short] in very truth. Certainly, you shall enter AlMasjidalHaram; if Allah wills, secure, (some) having your heads shaved, and (some) having your head hair cut short, having no fear. He knew what you knew not, and He granted besides that a near victory.
48:28 He it is Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islam), that He may make it (Islam) superior over all religions. And All-Sufficient is Allah as a Witness.
48:29 Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are firm against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating (in prayer), seeking Bounty from Allah and (His) Pleasure. The mark of them is on their faces (foreheads) from the traces of (their) prostration. This is their description in the Taurat.
But their description in the Injeel is like a (sown) seed which sends forth its shoot, then makes it strong, it then becomes thick, and it stands straight on its stem, delighting the sowers that He may enrage the disbelievers with them. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous good deeds, forgiveness and a mighty reward (i.e. Paradise).
