SURAH HUD
Hud
(Maccie, Surah # 11, Verses 123 )
QURAN AND GUIDANCE
11:1 Alif-Lãm-Ra. ˹This is˺ a Book whose verses are well perfected and then fully explained. ˹It is˺ from the One ˹Who is˺ All-Wise, All-Aware.
11:2˹Tell them, O Prophet,˺ “Worship none but Allah. Surely I am a warner and deliverer of good news to you from Him.
11:3 And seek your Lord’s forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance. He will grant you a good provision for an appointed term and graciously reward the doers of good. But if you turn away, then I truly fear for you the torment of a great Day.
11:4 To Allah is your return,. and He is Able to do all things"وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌ
11:5 (The unbelievers) cover their breasts to try to hide their disbelief from Allah. But He knows very well whatever they conceal or reveal even when they cover themselves with their garments. Allah certainly knows the innermost (secrets) of the hearts.
11:6 There is no moving creature on earth whose provision is not guaranteed by Allah. And He knows where it lives and where it is laid to rest. All is ˹written˺ in a perfect Record.
ARSH ON WATER
11:7 He is the One Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days—and His Throne was upon the waters—in order to test which of you is best in deeds. And if you ˹O Prophet˺ say, “Surely you will ˹all˺ be raised up after death,” the disbelievers will certainly say, “That is nothing but pure magic!”
11:8 And if We delay their punishment until an appointed time, they will definitely say, “What is holding it back?”On the day when it (punishment) befalls them, no one will be able to escape from it and that which they have mocked will surround them from all sides.
11:9 And if We give man a taste of Mercy from Us, and then withdraw it from him, verily! He is despairing, ungrateful.
11:10 But if We give him a taste of favor after hardship has touched him, he will surely say, "Bad times have left me." Indeed, he is exultant and boastful -
11:11 Except for those who are patient and do righteous deeds; those will have forgiveness and great reward.
11:12 Perhaps you ˹O Prophet˺ may wish to give up some of what is revealed to you and may be distressed by it because they say, “If only a treasure had been sent down to him, or an angel had come with him!” You are only a warner, and Allah is the Trustee of All Affairs.
10 SURAH CHALLENGE
11:13 Or do they say, "He invented it"? Say, "Then bring ten surahs like it that have been invented and call upon [for assistance] whomever you can besides Allah , if you should be truthful."
11:14 And if they do not respond to you - then know that the Qur'an was revealed with the knowledge of Allah and that there is no deity except Him. Then, would you [not] be Muslims?
11:15 Whoever desires ˹only˺ this worldly life and its luxuries, We will pay them in full for their deeds in this life—nothing will be left out.
11:16 It is they who will have nothing in the Hereafter except the Fire. Their efforts in this life will be fruitless and their deeds will be useless.
11:17˹Can these people be compared to˺ those ˹believers˺ who stand on clear proof from their Lord, backed by ˹the Quran as˺ a witness from Him, and preceded by the Book of Moses ˹which was revealed˺ as a guide and mercy? It is those ˹believers˺ who have faith in it. But whoever from the ˹disbelieving˺ groups rejects it, the Fire will be their destiny. So do not be in doubt of it. It is certainly the truth from your Lord, but most people do not believe.
11:18 Who does more wrong than those who fabricate lies against Allah? They will be brought before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, “These are the ones who lied against their Lord.” Surely Allah’s curse is upon the wrongdoers,
11:19 Who hinder ˹others˺ from Allah’s Path, striving to make it ˹appear˺ crooked, and disbelieve in the Hereafter.
11:20 By no means will they escape (from Allah's Torment) on earth, nor have they protectors besides Allah! Their torment will be doubled! They could not bear to hear and they used not to see.
11:21 It is they who have ruined themselves, and whatever ˹gods˺ they fabricated will fail them.
11:22 Without a doubt, they will be the worst losers in the Hereafter.
11:23 Surely those who believe, do good, and humble themselves before their Lord will be the residents of Paradise. They will be there forever.
11:24The example of these two parties is that of the blind and the deaf, compared to the seeing and the hearing. Can the two be equal? Will you not then be mindful?
PROPHET NUH
11:25 Surely We sent Noah to his people. ˹He said,˺ “Indeed, I am sent to you with a clear warning
11:26 that you should worship none but Allah. I truly fear for you the torment of a painful Day.”
11:27The disbelieving chiefs of his people said, “We see you only as a human being like ourselves, and we see that no one follows you except the lowliest among us, and they (too) followed you without thinking. We do not see anything that makes ˹all of˺ you any better than us. In fact, we think you are liars.”
11:28 He said, "O my people have you considered: if I should be upon clear evidence from my Lord while He has given me mercy from Himself but it has been made unapparent to you, should we force it upon you while it is against your will?
11:29 O my people! I do not ask you for a payment for this ˹message˺. My reward is only from Allah. And I will never dismiss the believers, for they will surely meet their Lord. But I can see that you are a people acting ignorantly.
11:30 My people, who would protect me against God if I were to drive these people away? Will you then not take heed?
11:31"And I do not say to you that with me are the Treasures of Allah, "Nor that I know the Ghaib (unseen);"nor do I say I am an angel, and I do not say of those whom your eyes look down upon that Allah will not bestow any good on them. Allah knows what is in their inner-selves (as regards belief, etc.). In that case, I should, indeed be one of the Zalimun
11:32They protested, “O Noah! You have argued with us far too much, so bring upon us what you threaten us with, if what you say is true.”
11:33 He responded, “It is Allah Who can bring it upon you if He wills, and then you will have no escape!
11:34 My advice will not benefit you—no matter how hard I try—if Allah wills ˹for˺ you to stray. He is your Lord, and to Him you will ˹all˺ be returned.
11:35 Or do they say, “He (Muhammad) has fabricated this ˹Quran˺!”? Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If I have done so, then I bear the burden of that sin! But I am free from your sinful accusation.”
11:36 And it was revealed to Noah that, "No one will believe from your people except those who have already believed, so do not be distressed by what they have been doing.
11:37 And build the Ark under Our ˹watchful˺ Eyes and directions, and do not plead with Me for those who have done wrong, for they will surely be drowned.”
11:38 So he began to build the Ark, and whenever some of the chiefs of his people passed by, they mocked him. He said, “If you laugh at us, we will ˹soon˺ laugh at you similarly.
11:39 You will soon come to know who will be visited by a humiliating torment ˹in this life˺ and overwhelmed by an everlasting punishment ˹in the next˺.”
11:40And when Our command came and the oven burst (water like fountains from the earth). We said ˹to Noah˺, “Take into the Ark a pair from every species along with your family—except those against whom the decree ˹to drown˺ has already been passed—and those who believe.” But none believed with him except for a few.
11:41 And he said, “Board it! In the Name of Allah it will sail and cast anchor. Surely my Lord is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
11:42 And ˹so˺ the Ark sailed with them through waves like mountains. Noah called out to his son, who stood apart, “O my dear son! Come aboard with us and do not be with the disbelievers.”
11:43 He replied, “I will take refuge on a mountain, which will protect me from the water.” Noah cried, “Today no one is protected from Allah’s decree except those to whom He shows mercy!” And the waves came between them, and his son was among the drowned.
11:44 And it was said: "O earth! Swallow up your water, and O sky! Withhold (your rain)." And the water was diminished and the Decree (of Allah) was fulfilled. And it (the ship) rested on Mount Judi, and it was said: "Away with the people who are Zalimun!"
11:45 Noah called out to his Lord, saying, “My Lord! Certainly my son is ˹also˺ of my family, Your promise is surely true, and You are the most just of all judges!”
11:46 Allah replied, “O Noah! He is certainly not of your family—he was entirely of unrighteous conduct. So do not ask Me about what you have no knowledge of! I warn you so you do not fall into ignorance.”
11:47 Noah pleaded, “My Lord, I seek refuge in You from asking You about what I have no knowledge of, and unless You forgive me and have mercy on me, I will be one of the losers.”
11:48 Noah was told, "Get down from the Ark. Your Lord's peace and blessings are upon you and your followers. Your Lord will grant favors to other nations and then afflict them with a painful torment."
11:49 This is one of the stories of the unseen, which we reveal to you ˹O Prophet˺. Neither you nor your people knew it before this. So be patient! Surely the ultimate outcome belongs ˹only˺ to the righteous.
PROPHET HUD (PEOPLE OF AD)
11:50 And to the people of ’Âd We sent their brother Hûd. He said, “O my people! Worship Allah. You have no god other than Him. You do nothing but fabricate lies ˹against Allah˺.
11:51O my people! I do not ask you for any reward for this ˹message˺. My reward is only from the One Who created me. Will you not then understand?
11:52 And O my people! Seek your Lord’s forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance. He will shower you with rain in abundance, and add strength to your strength. Do not sinfully turn away from Him.
11:53They argued, “O Hûd! You have not given us any clear proof, and we will never abandon our gods upon your word, nor will we believe in you.
11:54 All we can say is that some of our gods have possessed you with evil.” He said, “I call Allah to witness, and you too bear witness, that I ˹totally˺ reject whatever you associate
11:55 Other than Him. So plot against me all together; without delay!
11:56 I have put my trust in Allah—my Lord and your Lord. There is no living creature that is not completely under His control.Surely my Lord is on a straight path.
11:57 "So if you turn away, then verily, I have conveyed the Message with which I was sent to you. My Lord will replace you with others, and you will not harm Him at all. Surely, my Lord is Guardian over all things."
11:58 And when Our Commandment came, We saved Hud and those who believed with him by a Mercy from Us, and We saved them from a severe torment.
11:59 And that was 'Ad (people). They rejected the Ayat of their Lord and disobeyed His Messengers, and followed the command of every proud obstinate (oppressor of the truth).
11:60 And they were followed by a curse in this world and (so they will be) on the Day of Resurrection. No doubt! Verily, 'Ad disbelieved in their Lord. So away with 'Ad, the people of Hud.
PROPHET SALIH (PEOPLE OF THAMUD)
11:61 And to Thamud (people, We sent) their brother Salih (Saleh). He said: "O my people! Worship Allah, you have no other Ilah (God) but Him. He brought you forth from the earth and settled you in it, then ask forgiveness of Him and turn to Him in repentance. Indeed, my Lord is near and responsive."
11:62 They said, "Salih, we had great hope in you before this. Do you forbid us to worship that which our fathers had worshiped? We are doubtful and uncertain about what you have told us to worship."
11:63 He said: "O my people! Tell me, if I have a clear proof from my Lord, and there has come to me a Mercy (Prophethood, etc.) from Him, who then can help me against Allah, if I were to disobey Him? Then you increase me not but in loss.
11:64 And O my people! This she-camel of Allah is a sign for you.1 So leave her to graze ˹freely˺ on Allah’s earth and do her no harm, or a swift punishment will overtake you!”
11:65 But they killed her. So he said: "Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three days. This is a promise (i.e. a threat) that will not be belied."
11:66 When Our command came, We saved Ṣâliḥ and those who believed with him by a mercy from Us and spared them the disgrace of that Day. Surely your Lord ˹alone˺ is the All-Powerful, Almighty.
11:67 And the ˹mighty˺ blast overtook the wrongdoers, so they fell lifeless in their homes,
11:68 As if they had never lived there. No doubt! Verily, Thamud disbelieved in their Lord. So away with Thamud!
PROPHET IBRAHIM & PROPHET LUT
11:69 And surely Our messenger-angels came to Abraham with good news ˹of a son˺. They greeted ˹him with˺, “Peace!” And he replied, “Peace ˹be upon you˺!” Then it was not long before he brought ˹them˺ a ˹fat,˺ roasted calf.
11:70 And when he saw that their hands did not reach for the food, he became suspicious and fearful of them. They reassured ˹him˺, “Do not be afraid! We are ˹angels˺ sent ˹only˺ against the people of Lot.”
11:71And his wife was standing by, so she laughed, then We gave her good news of ˹the birth of˺ Ishaq, and, after him, Yacoob.
11:72 She said (in astonishment): "Woe unto me! Shall I bear a child while I am an old woman, and here is my husband, an old man? Verily! This is a strange thing!"
11:73 They said: "Do you wonder at the Decree of Allah? The Mercy of Allah and His Blessings be on you, O the family [of Ibrahim (Abraham)]. Surely, He (Allah) is All-Praiseworthy, All-Glorious."
11:74 Then when the fear had gone away from (the mind of) Ibrahim (Abraham), and the glad tidings had reached him, he began to plead with Us (Our Messengers) for the people of Lout (Lot).
11:75 Truly, Abraham was forbearing, tender-hearted, and ever turning ˹to his Lord˺.
11:76 The angels said,˺ “O Abraham! Plead no more! Your Lord’s decree has already come, and they will certainly be afflicted with a punishment that cannot be averted!”
11:77 When Our messenger-angels came to Lot, he was distressed and worried by their arrival.1 He said, “This is a distressful day.”
11:78 And ˹the men of˺ his people—who were used to shameful deeds—came to him rushing. He pleaded, “O my people! Here are my daughters ˹for marriage˺—they are pure for you. So fear Allah, and do not humiliate me by disrespecting my guests. Is there not ˹even˺ a single right-minded man among you?”
11:79 They argued, “You certainly know that we have no need for your daughters. You already know what we desire!”
11:80 He responded, “If only I had the strength ˹to resist you˺ or could rely on a strong supporter.”
11:81 The angels said, “O Lot! We are the messengers of your Lord. They will never reach you. So travel with your family in the dark of night, and do not let any of you look back, except your wife. She will certainly suffer the fate of the others.1 Their appointed time is the morning. Is the morning not near?”
11:82 So when Our Commandment came, We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down, and rained on them stones of baked clay, piled up;
11:83 marked by your Lord. Such a punishment is not far away from the unjust people.
PROPHET SHUAIB
11:84 And to the people of Midian We sent their brother Shu’aib. He said, “O my people! Worship Allah. You have no god other than Him. And do not give short measure and weight. I do see you in prosperity now, but I truly fear for you the torment of an overwhelming Day.
11:85"And O my people! Give full measure and weight in justice and reduce not the things that are due to the people, and do not commit mischief in the land, causing corruption.
11:86 What is left ˹as a lawful gain˺ by Allah is far better for you if you are ˹truly˺ believers. And I am not a keeper over you.”
11:87They said: "O Shu'aib! Does your Salat (prayer) (i.e. the prayers which you offer has spoiled your mind, so you) command that we leave off what our fathers used to worship, or that we leave off doing what we like with our property? Verily, you are the forbearer, right-minded!" (They said this sarcastically).
11:88 He said: "O my people! Tell me, if I have a clear evidence from my Lord, and He has given me a good sustenance from Himself (shall I corrupt it by mixing it with the unlawfully earned money). I wish not, in contradiction to you, to do that which I forbid you. I only desire reform so far as I am able, to the best of my power. And my guidance cannot come except from Allah, in Him I trust and unto Him I repent.
11:89 My people, do not let your opposition to me lead you to commit sins or make you suffer what the people of Noah, Hud, and Salih suffered. Remember that the people of Lot were destroyed not very long ago.
11:90 So seek your Lord’s forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance. Surely my Lord is Most Merciful, All-Loving.”
11:91They said, "O Shu'ayb, we do not understand much of what you say, and indeed, we consider you among us as weak. And if not for your family, we would have stoned you [to death]; and you are not to us one respected."
11:92 He asked them, "My people, is my family more respectable to you than God whom you have completely ignored? My Lord certainly has full control over your deeds.
11:93 My people, do as you wish and I will do (as I believe). You will soon know who will suffer a humiliating torment and who was the one telling lies. Wait and I too will be waiting with you."
11:94 When Our command came, We saved Shu’aib and those who believed with him by a mercy from Us. And the ˹mighty˺ blast overtook the wrongdoers, so they fell lifeless in their homes,
11:95 as if they had never lived there. So away with Midian as it was with Thamûd!
PROPHET MUSA
11:96 Indeed, We sent Moses with Our signs and compelling proof
11:97 To Fir'aun and his chiefs, but they followed the command of Fir'aun, and the command of Fir'aun was no right guide.
11:98 On the Day of Judgment he will lead his people down into the hell fire. His leadership is evil and terrible is the place to which he leads!
11:99 They were followed by a curse in this ˹life˺ and ˹will receive another˺ on the Day of Judgment. What an evil gift to receive!
11:100 Such were the stories of the nations of the past which We tell to you, (Muhammad). Some of them were destroyed and some of them have survived.
11:101We did not wrong them, rather they wronged themselves. The gods they invoked beside Allah, were of no help at all when the command of your Lord came, The idols only brought about their destruction.
11:102 Thus was the punishment of your Lord when He punished the unjust people of the towns. The punishment of your Lord is certainly severe.
11:103 Surely, in this is a sign for those who fear the torment of the Hereafter. That is a Day for which humanity will be gathered and a Day ˹that will be˺ witnessed ˹by all˺.
11:104 And We do not delay it except for a limited term.
11:105 When that Day arrives, no one will dare speak except with His permission. Some of them will be miserable, others joyful.
11:106 As for those bound for misery, they will be in the Fire, where they will be sighing and wailing
11:107 staying there forever, as long as the heavens and the earth will exist, except what your Lord wills. Surely your Lord does what He intends.
11:108 And as for those destined to joy, they will be in Paradise, staying there forever, as long as the heavens and the earth will exist, except what your Lord wills—a ˹generous˺ giving, without end.
11:109 So do not be in doubt ˹O Prophet˺ about what those ˹pagans˺ worship. They worship nothing except what their forefathers worshiped before ˹them˺. And We will certainly give them their share ˹of punishment˺ in full, without any reduction.
11:110 We gave the Book to Moses but people had different views about it. Had the Word of your Lord not been already ordained, He would have settled their differences (there and then). They are still in doubt about this.
11:111 And surely your Lord will fully pay all for their deeds. He is certainly All-Aware of what they do.
11:112 So be steadfast as you are commanded ˹O Prophet˺, along with those who turn ˹in submission to Allah˺ with you. And do not transgress. Surely He is All-Seeing of what you ˹believers˺ do.
11:113 And do not be inclined to the wrongdoers or you will be touched by the Fire. For then you would have no protectors other than Allah, nor would you be helped.
11:114 Establish prayer ˹O Prophet˺ at both ends of the day and in the early part of the night. Surely good deeds wipe out evil deeds. That is a reminder for the mindful.
11:115 And be patient; verily, Allah loses not the reward of the good-doers.
11:116 If only there had been among the generations before you, persons having wisdom, prohibiting (others) from corruption in the earth, except a few of those whom We saved from among them. Those who did wrong pursued the enjoyment of good things of (this worldly) life, and were Mujrimun.
11:117 And your Lord ˹O Prophet˺ would never destroy a society unjustly while its people were acting rightly.
11:118 Had your Lord wanted, He would have made all people one united nation. They still have different beliefs
11:119 Except him on whom your Lord has bestowed His Mercy and for that did He create them. And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled (i.e. His Saying): "Surely, I shall fill Hell with jinns and men all together."
11:120 And We relate to you ˹O Prophet˺ the stories of the messengers to reassure your heart. And there has come to you in this ˹sûrah˺ the truth, a warning ˹to the disbelievers˺, and a reminder to the believers.
11:121 And say to those who do not believe: "Act according to your ability and way, We are acting (in our way).
11:122 And you wait ! We (too) are waiting."
11:123 To Allah ˹alone˺ belongs the knowledge of what is hidden in the heavens and the earth. And to Him all matters are returned. So worship Him and put your trust in Him. And your Lord is never unaware of what you do.
