SURAH AS-SAAD
Saad
(Maccie, Surah # 38, Verses 88 )
38:1 Ṣãd. By the Quran, full of reminders!
THEY DISBELIEVED IN QURAN AND WORSHIPED IDOLS
38:2 Nay, those who disbelieve are in false pride and opposition.
38:3 How many a generation We have destroyed before them, and they cried out when there was no longer time for escape!
38:4 And they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, "This is a magician and a liar.
38:5 "Has he made the aliha (gods) (all) into One Ilah (Allah). Verily, this is a curious thing!"
38:6 And the leaders among them went about (saying): "Go on, and remain constant to your aliha (gods)! Verily, This is a scheme designed (against you)!
38:7 We have never heard of this in the previous faith. This is nothing but an invention,
38:8 "Has the Reminder been sent down to him (alone) from among us?" Nay! but they are in doubt about My Reminder (this Quran)! Nay, but they have not tasted (My) Torment!
38:9 Or ˹is it because˺ they possess the treasuries of the mercy of your Lord, the All-Mighty, the Real Bestower?
38:10 Or ˹is it because˺ the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and everything in between belongs to them? Let them then climb their way ˹to heaven, if their claim is true˺.
38:11 [They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers].
ANCIENT TRIBES WHO DENIED THE MESSAGE
38:12 The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] 'Aad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes,
38:13 So also did the people of Thamud, Lot, and the dwellers of the Forest.those were the parties;
38:14 Each of them denied the messengers, so My Torment was justified.
38:15 And these ˹disbelievers˺ are awaiting nothing but a single Blast that cannot be delay.
38:16 And they say, "Our Lord, hasten for us our share [of the punishment] before the Day of Account"
PROPHET DAWUD
38:17 Be patient ˹O Prophet˺ with what they say. And remember Our servant, Dawud, the man of strength. Indeed, he ˹constantly˺ turned ˹to Allah˺.
38:18 Indeed, We made the mountains [to praise] with him (Dawud) exalting [Allah] in the [late] afternoon and [after] sunrise.
38:19 And the birds were assembled, all with him repeating [praises].
38:20 We made his kingdom strong and gave him Al-Hikmah (Prophethood, etc.) and sound judgment in speech and decision.
38:21 Have you heard the news of the disputing parties, when they climbed over the wall of [his] prayer chamber -
38:22 When they entered in upon Dawud, he was terrified of them, they said: "Fear not! (We are) two disputing parties, one of whom has wronged the other, therefore judge between us with truth, and treat us not with injustice, and guide us to the Right Way.
38:23 This is my brother. He has ninety-nine sheep while I have ˹only˺ one. ˹Still˺ he asked me to give it up to him, and he overpowered me in speech."
38:24 Dawud ˹eventually˺ ruled, “He has definitely wronged you in demanding ˹to add˺ your sheep to his. And, verily, many partners oppress one another, except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and they are few."Then Dawud realized that We had tested him so he asked for his Lord’s forgiveness, fell down in prostration, and turned ˹to Him in repentance˺.
38:25 So We forgave him that; and indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.
38:26 ˹We instructed him:˺ “O Dawud! We have surely made you an authority in the land, so judge between people with truth. And do not follow ˹your˺ desires or they will lead you astray from Allah’s Way. Surely those who go astray from Allah’s Way will suffer a severe punishment for neglecting the Day of Reckoning.”
38:27 We have not created the heavens and earth and everything in between without purpose—as the disbelievers think.Woe to the disbelievers; they will suffer the torment of fire
BELIEVERS CANNOT BE TREATED LIKE DISBELIEVERS
38:28 Or should we treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like corrupters in the land? Or should We treat those who fear Allah like the wicked?
38:29 [This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad] that they may ponder over its Verses, and that men of understanding may be reminded.
PROPHET SULAIMAN MISSED SALATUL-ASR
38:30 And We blessed David with Solomon—what an excellent servant ˹he was˺! Indeed, he ˹constantly˺ turned ˹to Allah˺.
38:31 When there were displayed before him, in the afternoon, well trained horses of the highest breed [for Jihad (holy fighting in Allah's Cause)].
38:32 And he said, "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord (in my 'Asr prayer) until the time was over and the sun disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]."
38:33 Bring them back to me; so he began to slash (their) legs and necks.
38:34 And indeed, We tested Solomon, placing a ˹deformed˺ body on his throne, then he turned ˹to Allah in repentance˺.
PROPHET SULAIMAN DUA
38:35 He said: "My Lord! Forgive me, and bestow upon me a kingdom such as shall not belong to any other after me: Verily, You are the Bestower."
WIND AND SHAITAN WERE UNDER PROPHET SULAIMAN CONTROL
38:36 So We subjected to him the wind, blowing gently at his command to wherever he directed.
38:37 And also the Shayatin (devils) from the jinns (including) every kind of builder and diver,
38:38 The rest of the devils were bound in chains.
38:39 [We said], "This is Our gift, so grant or withhold without account."
38:40 And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.
ALLAH CURED PROPHET AYOUB AND GAVE HIM TWICE FAMILY BACK
38:41 (Muhammad), recall Our servant Ayub. When he prayed to his Lord saying, "Satan has afflicted me with hardship and suffering,"
38:42 (Allah said to him): "Strike the ground with your foot: This is a spring of water to wash in, cool and a (refreshing) drink."
38:43 And We gave him back his family, twice as many, as a mercy from Us and a lesson for people of understanding.
PROPHET AYUOB OATH
38:44 And We said to him,˺ “Take in your hand a bundle of grass, and strike ˹your wife˺ with it, and do not break your oath.” We truly found him patient. What an excellent servant ˹he was˺! Indeed, he ˹constantly˺ turned ˹to Allah˺.
OTHER PROPHETS
38:45 And remember Our slaves, Ibrahim, Ishaque, and Ya'qub, (all) owners of strength (in worshipping Us) and (also) of religious understanding.
38:46 Indeed, We chose them for an exclusive quality: remembrance of the home [of the Hereafter].
38:47 And indeed they are, to Us, among the chosen and outstanding.
38:48 And remember Isma'il, AlYasa'a, and Dhul-Kifl, all are among the best.
PARADISE FOR THE RIGHTEOUS
38:49 This is a Reminder, and verily, for the Muttaqun is a good final return (Paradise),
38:50 the Gardens of Eternity, whose gates will be open for them.
38:51 There they will recline, calling for abundant fruit and drink.
38:52 And with them will be maidens of modest gaze and equal age.
38:53 This is what you, [the righteous], are promised for the Day of Account.
38:54 (It will be said to them)! Verily, this is Our Provision which will never finish;
HELL FOR THE TRANSGRESSORS
38:55 This [is so]. But indeed, for the transgressors is an evil place of return -
38:56 Hell! Where they will burn, and worst (indeed) is that place to rest!
38:57 This is so! Then let them taste it, boiling water and ˹oozing˺ pus,
38:58 And other torments of similar kind, all together!
DISPUTE BETWEEN THE PEOPLE OF THE FIRE
38:59 The misleaders will say to one another,˺ “Here is a crowd ˹of followers˺ being thrown in with us. They are not welcome, ˹for˺ they ˹too˺ will burn in the Fire.”
38:60 The followers will respond, “No! You are not welcome! You brought this upon us. What an evil place for settlement!”
38:61 They will say: "Our Lord! Whoever brought this upon us, add to him a double torment in the Fire!"
38:62 And they will say, "Why do we not see men whom we used to count among the worst?
38:63 Were we wrong in mocking them ˹in the world˺? Or do our eyes ˹just˺ fail to see them
38:64 Verily, that is the very truth, the mutual dispute of the people of the Fire!
PROPHET MUHAMMAD WAS ONLY A WARNER
38:65 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “I am only a warner. And there is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah—the One, the Supreme.
38:66 ˹He is the˺ Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between—the Almighty, Most Forgiving.”
38:67 Say: "That (this Quran) is a great news,
38:68 from which you ˹pagans˺ are turning away.”
38:69 I had no knowledge of the exalted assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [the creation of Adam].
38:70 What is revealed to me is that I am only sent with a clear warning.”
IBLIS DID NOT PROSTRATE ADAM
38:71 ˹Remember, O Prophet˺ when your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to create a human being from clay.
38:72 So when I have fashioned him and breathed into him (his) soul created by Me, then you fall down prostrate to him."
38:73 So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely.
38:74 Except Iblis (Satan) he was proud and was one of the disbelievers.
38:75 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What prevents you from prostrating yourself to one whom I have created with Both My Hands. Are you too proud (to fall prostrate to Adam) or have you always been arrogant?”
38:76 Iblis said: "I am better than he, You created me from fire, and You created him from clay."
38:77 Allah commanded, “Then get out of Paradise, for you are truly cursed.
38:78 "And verily!, My Curse is on you till the Day of Judgment.”
38:79 Satan appealed, “My Lord! Then delay my end until the Day of their resurrection.”
38:80 (Allah) said: "Verily! You are of those allowed respite
38:81 "Till the Day of the time appointed."
38:82 Iblis said: "By Your Might, then I will surely mislead them all,
38:83 Except Your chosen servants among them.”
38:84 (Allah) said: "The Truth is, and the Truth I say,
38:85 I will surely fill up Hell with you and whoever follows you from among them, all together.”
QURAN IS A REMINDER FOR ALAMIN
38:86 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “I do not ask you for any reward for this ˹Quran˺, nor do I pretend to be someone I am not.
38:87 "It (this Quran) is only a Reminder for all the 'Alamin
38:88 "And you shall certainly know the truth of it after a while.
