SURAH AL-HIJR

The Rock

(Maccie, Surah # 15, Verses 99 )

15:1 Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an.

DISBELIEVERS WISH TO BE A MUSLIM

15:2 Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.

15:3 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth).

15:4 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it.

15:5 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it.

15:6 And they say: "O you (Muhammad SAW ) to whom the Dhikr (the Quran) has been sent down! Verily, you are a mad man.

15:7 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true".

15:8 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite.

15:9 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian.

15:10 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you (Muhammad)

15:11 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him.

15:12 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals.

15:13 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers)

15:14  And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven which they could easily pass,

15:15 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic."

HEAVEN & EARTH

15:16 And We have placed within the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers.

15:17 And We have protected it from every devil expelled [from the mercy of Allah]

15:18 Except him (devil) that gains hearing by stealing, but who are chased away by a bright flame.

15:19 As for the earth, We spread it out and placed upon it firm mountains, and caused everything to grow there in perfect balance.

15:20 And We have made for you therein means of living and [for] those for whom you are not providers.

15:21 With Us is the source of everything and We do not send it down except in a precise measure.

15:22  And We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.

15:23 And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor.

15:24 And indeed, We know the first generations of you who had passed away, and indeed, We know the present generations of you (mankind), and also those who will come afterwards.

15:25 And verily, your Lord will gather them together. Truly, He is All-Wise, All-Knowing.

15:26 And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud.

15:27 And the jinn, We created before (human beings) from the smokeless flame of fire.

ADAM/IBLIS

15:28 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud.

15:29 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him."

15:30 So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 

15:31 Except Iblis (Shaitan), - he refused to be among the prostrators.

15:32 [Allah] said, O Iblis, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?"

15:33  Iblis said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud."

15:34 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are expelled.

15:35 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense.

15:36  Iblis said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they will be resurrected."

15:37 The Lord said, "Your request is granted

15:38 "Till the Day of the time appointed."

15:39 Iblis said, "Lord, because you have caused me to go astray, I shall make earthly things attractive to (people) and mislead all of them

15:40 "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them."

15:41 Allah said, "The path which leads to Me is a straight

15:42  "Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghawin (Mushrikun)

HELL

15:43 "And surely, Hell is the promised place for them all.

15:44 It has seven gates; for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned.

PARADISE

15:45 Indeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs.

15:46 ˹It will be said to them,˺ “Enter in peace and security.”

15:47 We shall remove all hatred from their breasts and make them as brothers reclining on thrones facing one another.

15:48 No fatigue will touch them there, nor will they ever be asked to leave.

15:49 (Muhammad), tell My servants that I am All-forgiving and Most-Merciful

15:50 And that it is My punishment which is the painful punishment.

GLAD TIDINGS OF PROPHET IBRAHIM SON

15:51 And tell them about the guests (the angels) of Ibrahim

15:52 When they entered unto him, and said: Salam (peace)! [Ibrahim] said: "Indeed! We are afraid of you."

15:53 They reassured ˹him˺, “Do not be afraid! Surely we give you good news of a knowledgeable son.”

15:54 Ibrahim said: "Do you give me glad tidings (of a son) when old age has overtaken me?What reason can you give for such glad news?"

15:55 They said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."

15:56 Ibrahim said: "And who despairs of the Mercy of his Lord except those who are misguided?"

15:57 Ibrahim said: "What then is the mission on which you have come, O Messengers?"

PROPHET LUT 

15:58 They (the angels) said: "We have been sent to a people who are criminals”

15:59 Except the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all

15:60 Except his wife." Allah decreed that she is of those who remain behind.

15:61 And when the messengers came to the family of Lot,

15:62 He said: "Verily! You are people unknown to me."

15:63 They responded, “We have come to you with that ˹torment˺ which they have doubted.

15:64 And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful.

15:65 So travel with your family in the dark of night, and follow ˹closely˺ behind them. Do not let any of you look back, and go where you are commanded.”

15:66 And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning.

15:67 And the people of the city came rejoicing.

15:68 [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me.

15:69 Have fear of Allah and do not humiliate me".

15:70 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?"

15:71 He said, “O my people! Here are my daughters˹so marry them˺ if you wish to do so.”

15:72 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.

15:73 So the ˹mighty˺ blast overtook them at sunrise.

15:74 And We turned the cities ˹of Sodom and Gomorrah˺ upside down and rained upon them stones of baked clay.

15:75 Surely! In this are signs, for those who see

15:76 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now).

15:77 Surely, in this is a sign for those who believe.

PROPHET SHUAIB

15:78 And the dwellers in the wood (the people of Madyan to whom Prophet Shu'aib was sent ), were also Zalimun

15:79 so We inflicted punishment upon them. The ruins of both nations still lie on a well-known road.

15:80 And verily, the dwellers of Al-Hijr (the rocky tract) denied the Messengers.

15:81 We gave them Our signs, but they turned away from them.

15:82 And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.

15:83 But the ˹mighty˺ blast overtook them in the morning,

15:84 Out of what they had gained, nothing proved to be of any benefit to them.

15:85 And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness.

15:86 Verily, your Lord is the All-Knowing Creator.

SURAH FATHIHA

15:87 And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses i.e Surah Fathiha] and the great Qur'an.

15:88 Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of the disbelievers, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing to the believers

15:89 Say, "Indeed, I am simply one who warns."

15:90 (We have given you the Quran) as We had given (the Bible) to those who divided themselves into groups

15:91 Who have made the Quran into parts. (i.e. believed in a part and disbelieved in the other).

15:92 So, by your Lord (O Muhammad SAW), We shall certainly call all of them to account. 

15:93 for what they have done.

15:94 Therefore declare openly what you are commanded and turn away from Al-Mushrikun

15:95 We shall help you against those who mock you

15:96 Who set up along with Allah another ilah (god), they will come to know.

15:97 We certainly know that you feel sad about what they say against you.

15:98 So glorify the praises of your Lord and be of those who prostrate themselves (to Him).

15:99 And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (i.e. death).
