SURAH MUMTAHINA

The Woman to be examined

(Madnie, Surah # 60, Verses 13 )

DISBELIEVERS WILL TURN YOU AWAY FROM YOUR FAITH

60:1 Believers, do not choose My enemies and your own enemies for friends, and offer them strong love. They have rejected the Truth which has come to you, and have expelled the Messenger and you from your homes(Mecca) because of your belief in your Lord. When you go to fight for My cause and seek My pleasure, you secretly express your love of them. I know best what you reveal or conceal. Whichever of you does this has indeed gone astray from the right path.

60:2 If they (disbeliever allies) find an opportunity to turn against you, they will become your enemies and will stretch out their hands and tongues at you with evil intent. They would love to see you turn away from your faith.

CHILDREN OR RELATIVE WILL NOT BENEFIT YOU ON THE DAY OF RESURRECTION

60:3 Neither your relatives nor your children will benefit you on the Day of Resurrection (against Allah). He will judge between you. And Allah is the All-Seer of what you do.

PROPHET ADAM CUT TIES WITH HIS DISBELIEVING RELATIVES

60:4 Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrahim and those with him,when they said to their people,"Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship other than Allah.we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you, hostility and hatred for ever, until you believe in Allah Alone," except the saying of Ibrahim to his father: "Verily, I will ask for forgiveness  for you, but I have no power to do anything for you before Allah .

رَّبَّنَا عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

" Our Lord! In You (Alone) we put our trust, and to You (Alone) we turn in repentance, and to You (Alone) is (our) final Return,

60:5                       رَبَّنَا لَا تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةًۭ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا رَبَّنَآ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

"Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the disbelievers, and forgive us, Our Lord! Verily, You, only You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise."

60:6 You certainly have an excellent example in them for whoever has hope in Allah and the Last Day. But whoever turns away, then surely Allah ˹alone˺ is the Self-Sufficient, Praiseworthy.

60:7 Perhaps Allah will make friendship between you and those whom you hold as enemies. And Allah has power (over all things), and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

DON'T BE FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE WHO FOUGHT AGAINST YOUR RELIGION

60:8 Allah does not forbid you to deal kindly and justly with those who have not fought against you about religion or expelled you from your homes. Allah does not love the unjust people.

60:9 He only forbids you to be friends with those who have fought against you about religion, expelled you from your homes or supported others in expelling you. Whoever loves these people are unjust.

BELIEVING WOMEN MIGRATED FROM MAKKAH TO MADINA

60:10 O believers! When the believing women come to you as emigrants, test their intentions—their faith is best known to Allah—and if you find them to be believers, then do not send them back to the disbelievers. These ˹women˺ are not lawful ˹wives˺ for the disbelievers, nor are the disbelievers lawful ˹husbands˺ for them. ˹But˺ repay the disbelievers whatever ˹dowries˺ they had paid. And there is no blame on you if you marry these ˹women˺ as long as you pay them their dowries. 

And do not hold on to marriage with polytheistic women. ˹But˺ demand ˹repayment of˺ whatever ˹dowries˺ you had paid, and let the disbelievers do the same. That is the judgment of Allah—He judges between you. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

60:11 If your wives go away from you to disbelievers who will not give you back the dowry which you spent on them, let the Muslims pay back such dowry from the property of the disbelievers which may come into their hands. Have fear of Allah in whom you believe.

TAKE PLEDGE FROM BELIEVING WOMEN

60:12 O Prophet! When the believing women come to you, pledging to you that they will neither associate anything with Allah ˹in worship˺, nor steal, nor fornicate, nor kill their children, nor falsely attribute ˹illegitimate˺ children to their husbands, nor disobey you in what is right, then accept their pledge, and ask Allah to forgive them. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

DO NOT BE FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE WHO ALLAH DISPLEASED WITH

60:13 O believers! Do not friends yourselves with a people Allah is displeased with. They do not have any hope in the life to come (Hereafter), just as the disbelievers have no hope in those who are in their graves.
